The Restaurant

 

Table 14 is an upscale, Charleston-inspired bistro that opened in the summer of 2016. Owned and operated by husband-and-wife team Howard and Laura Iles, the restaurant reflects Chef Howard’s culinary journey through California, Maryland, South Carolina, and Louisiana, while the heart of Table 14 remains rooted in Charleston—celebrating bold flavors, coastal traditions, and warm Lowcountry hospitality.

Located on the corner of Ludington Avenue and Rath, Table 14 brings a fresh presence to a space long known for its charm. While not strictly Southern, the menu is inspired by Lowcountry flavors, featuring signature dishes such as she crab soup, shrimp and grits, and braised collard greens alongside fresh offerings like salmon, whitefish, and duck. The result is approachable yet refined cuisine in a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere.

Howard grew up as a Navy child, living in Louisiana, California, and Maryland before returning to Ludington at sixteen. Laura, originally from Minnesota, was raised just blocks from Stearns Park, where their paths eventually crossed.

After marrying and spending time in Traverse City, the couple relocated to Charleston, South Carolina, where Howard studied Culinary Arts at Johnson & Wales University, refining his craft in the eclectic Southern style of the Lowcountry.

Drawn back home to Lake Michigan, Howard and Laura opened Table 14 in August 2016 with their two sons, Blaise and Chance—bringing the flavors of the Lowcountry to Ludington with warmth, family, and care.
